Cornwall has a long and varied coastline and is well renowned for sailing, surfing and other water sports. There are also some well-managed lakes and rivers in the county, which offer opportunities for sailing and kayaking. Here are some of our nearest centres and businesses offering lessons and hire.
Polkerris Water Sports Centre
Our closest centre is only a twenty minute walk from Penhale: Polkerris Water Sports is RYA approved and offers sailing and windsurfing tuition and hire, as well as lessons and hire of stand up paddle boards, and hire of kayaks. Polkerris is a safe place to develop your skills.
There are changing rooms with showers and toilets, as well as a shop, and small cafe.

Fowey River Expeditions
Offering escorted river trips in stable open cockpit canoes, with experienced guides. These trips are the best way to discover the beautiful estuary and see the diverse wildlife. Total beginners are welcome, both young and old, and everybody wears a buoyancy aid. You don't even have to be able to swim as safety boats accompany every expedition. All children are welcome but under eighteens must be accompanied.
The whole trip takes about five hours with about two and a half hours on the river divided by a midway break, when you can buy some lunch or bring your own picnic. All Expeditions start and end in Fowey.

Fowey Kayak Hire
For more experienced canoeists, you can hire a sit-on kayak to go out independently and explore the river. Kayaks can be hired by the half or whole day or for an hour, but at least one member of the party must be over eighteen. Photo ID is also required.

Offering chartering, and also high standard RYA courses on sail cruising yachts, power boats, and navigation & seamanship. They also provide shorter one day courses. Fowey River and Sea Cruises
Based at the Town Quay in Fowey, there are lots of regular boat trips with experienced skippers, which run all day every day throughout the main season. Destinations include exploring the beautiful estuary up to Lerryn or Lostwithiel, or going further afield to Charlestown or Polperro. This is a great way to get out on the water if you prefer to take things easy.
